Cruise Ship Shore Excursions from the Port of Tauranga
The best "Small Group Tour" available in the Bay
For only NZ$135.00 Archer Tours can help with your shore excursion when your ship calls at the Port of Tauranga for the day. We specialize in a 6-hour tour to Rotorua the Maori Culture capital of New Zealand and the centre of the Geo-Thermal region of NZ.
You will be met at the gangway of your ship by your Maori driver/guide (that's me) in a mini van (maximum of 8 passengers). Your 6-hour tour to Rotorua starts with a drive along the waterfront of Pilot Bay Mount Maunganui, then along the picturesque Mount Maunganui surf beach with it’s many luxurious homes. You will pass through Te Puke the “Kiwi Fruit Capital” of NZ and stop to visit Kiwi 360 a Kiwi Fruit orchard where I will explain to you, and show you, how the Kiwi Fruit is grown. You will have the opportunity to taste some of the products; for example the new Gold Kiwi Fruit and the little Kiwi Berries, plus Kiwi Fruit wine and Liquor. Of course there is the inevitable gift shop where you can purchase NZ Made products also.
You will continue your tour to Rotorua where you will visit the Rotorua Lakefront for great photo opportunities and take a walk through the Government Gardens. You will then go to Te Puia the Maori Cultural Centre where I will guide you every step of the way, explaining the meaning of the Maori carvings, Maori Protocol, history, legends and beliefs. You will also go to a Maori cultural performance experiencing the traditional challenge and song and dance including the fearsome Haka or posture dance. After the performance I will take you down into the thermal valley to see the boiling mud pools and steaming geysers erupting up to 30-meteres in the air. Pohutu geyser is a Natural geyser unlike the geyser where soap powder is inserted to make it erupt, which is how they know it will erupt at 10:15am everyday. You will also visit a Kiwi House where you will see our National bird, the flightless and endangered Kiwi Bird. As an Indigenous New Zealander you can be sure that the stories of the Maori people and our culture are genuine, plus you will hear about New Zealand history from both a Maori and non-Maori perspective.
On leaving the Maori cultural centre I will take you to Capers, a very good café, where you can purchase some lunch (own expense). Capers have a large range of café style foods plus many NZ wines and beer and very good coffee. You will return to your ship via a different route to which you traveled on your way to Rotorua, thereby offering you different scenery for your return journey.
I am a tour guide not just a driver so I will guide you around the sites, not just drop you off at the gate to find your own way around, you will be looked after every step of your tour. Your vehicle and I are fully licensed to carry paying passengers plus Archer Tours is a member of Tourism New Zealand and Qualmark endorsed as a Visitor Activity. The Qualmark gives you the assurance that I am a trusted Tour Operator as a member of Tourism New Zealand.
This fully guided tour, costs NZ$135.00 per person. You can be sure of a wonderful, fun filled, informative day with Jim and Archer Tours. Price includes the $50 entry fee into Te Puia.
Compare this to your ships prices for similar tours and you won't be on a coach with 50 other people.
We guarrantee to get you back to your ship well before your sailing time.
